MVM Holds Earthquake Exercise
On Tuesday, Jan. 14, members of the Memphis District's Crisis Management Team (CMT) and selected other individuals participated in a half-day Disaster Response Exercise for a New Madrid Seismic Zone Earthquake. The exercise began at 7 a.m. when Alternate Assembly Point leaders traveled to pre-designated locations and used satellite telephones to test communications links with the Alternate Command Post (ACP). The ACP is located at the Central United States Earthquake Consortium facility on Holmes Road south of Memphis International Airport. At 8 a.m. CMT members fully activated the Command Post and conducted additional communication tests. The rest of the morning was given over to working through various potential scenarios and general problem solving. The exercise concluded at noon. (USACE Photo/Brenda Beasley)
