Richard Sullivan is the new Chief of Physical Support Branch for the Corps of Engineers

MEMPHIS, Tenn., April 17, 2009 – Richard Sullivan is the new Chief of Physical Support Branch
for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Memphis District.

He has 36 years of federal service with the Memphis District and has worked in various sections within the Engineering and Operations Divisions. His most recent assignment was as the Chief of Navigation Section.

In his new position, Sullivan is responsible for all operation, maintenance and hired labor construction activities which support the district's mission to maintain navigation and support flood control on the Mississippi and White Rivers. He is also responsible for the operation of Ensley Engineer Yard and Marine Maintenance Center located on McKellar Lake.

The 25,000-square-mile Memphis District encompasses portions of six states and is charged with keeping 355 miles of the Mississippi River open for commercial navigation. Its mission is to provide flood risk management, navigation, environmental stewardship, other authorized civil works, military programs support, and emergency operations within our area of responsibility, in order to benefit the region and the nation.
