USACE schedules three Public Meetings for the Lower Mississippi River

MEMPHIS, Tenn., July 16, 2013 – The Memphis District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in conjunction with the Vicksburg and New Orleans Districts and other project partners, will hold three open house style public meetings on the Lower Mississippi River Resource Assessment (LMRRA). The public is invited to give us input about recreational opportunities and improvements along the Mississippi River and fish and wildlife habitat in the river and the land between the levees.

The Water Resources Development Act of 2000 directed the Corps of Engineers to conduct three assessments on the Lower Mississippi River. The assessment of information needed for river-related management is complete. The Memphis District is beginning the assessments of habitat and river-related recreation access needs.

Other partners in the LMRRA include The Nature Conservancy, the Lower Mississippi River Conservation Committee, Mississippi River Corridor – Tennessee, the National Audubon Society, Delta Wildlife and Wildlife Mississippi.
