Enid Lake Annual Clean Up Day

VICKSBURG, Miss., Jan. 17, 2014 - The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District (Corps) will hold the 10th annual Enid Lake clean-up day on 22 February 2014. Volunteers interested in participating in this event can meet at the Enid Lake Field Office, Chickasaw Hill Boat Ramp or Sylva Rena Grocery at 7:00 a.m.

Clean-up efforts will be focused on Enid Lake’s main access roads, recreation areas and shoreline. Trash that is collected will be dropped off at designated sites. Volunteers planning to work along the shoreline may bring their all-terrain or utility vehicles and appropriate clothing. Lunch will be provided.

Enid Lake personnel and the Enid Lake Volunteers for Waste Management formed a partnership to help clean Enid Lake’s shoreline and roadways to enhance visitor’s enjoyment.

To date, the volunteers have been directly responsible for picking up over 773 compacted cubic yards of trash and debris and the removal of 690 tires from the shoreline and roadways of the lake. The event has also been directly responsible for volunteer services valued at over $227,800.00. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers public lands offer an array of safe recreational opportunities that include fishing, boating, camping, hiking, bicycling, swimming, and photography. Enid Lake’s primary mission is flood damage risk reduction and is maintained and operated by the Vicksburg District. Over 1.5 million individuals visit the 44,000-acre recreational area annually.
