A ribbon cutting event held May 24 in Cameron
Parish celebrated the completion of a maintenance building project
where the Road & Bridge Department, the Sheriff’s Department, and
the School Board will maintain their vehicles and equipment.
The project began in November 2005 when the
Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) authorized the Corps to
oversee the design and completion of the new maintenance facility
for Cameron Parish following Hurricane Rita, said Project Manager
Robert Hill.
The area surrounding the new maintenance
facility in Cameron was completely devastated, said Hill.
Parish officials were very pleased with the
product they received, and were extremely appreciative of the
efforts that were made by the Corps and the Corps’ contractors in
erecting the facility, said LA-RFO Deputy Commander Michael Park.
The facility is a pre-engineered building that
has six large garage doors that open up into a cavernous building,
said Park. Along the back side of the building, indoors, there are
enclosed storage spaces and air conditioned office spaces.
Parish representative Tina Horn had worked
with Park before in New Orleans District, he said. Horn shared with
him that she had lost her home in lower Cameron Parish.
"It’s very gratifying to be able to do
something to move the recovery along," said Park. "This is just one
of the many projects that we’ve been able to do that has contributed
to the communities that have been impacted and their recovery," said
Park.
