LTC. D. Craig Hamilton
Deputy Commander, Memphis District
LTC D. Craig Hamilton assumed the duties of
Deputy Commander for the Memphis District, U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) on Sept. 15,
2010. His most recent assignment was in
Afghanistan where he served as an Operations
Officer for the Corps of Engineers Deputy
Commanding General for Civil Works supporting
Army Central Command.
As the Memphis District Deputy Commander he is
responsible for flood risk management,
navigation, environmental stewardship, emergency
operations, other authorized civil works, and
work for others along 610 miles of the
Mississippi and White Rivers, encompassing a
25,000 square mile area in six states –
Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas, Kentucky,
Tennessee, and Mississippi.

LTC Hamilton Graduated from Missouri State
University (formerly Southwest Missouri State
University) in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science
degree in Environmental Science and was
commissioned as an Engineer Officer. Upon
graduating from the Engineer Officer Basic
Course, he was stationed in Germany and assigned
to the 40th Engineer Battalion, 1st
Armored Division where he served as a Platoon
Leader and led his platoon in the initial
Implementation Force (IFOR) for Operation
Endeavor in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Upon return to
Germany, he served as a Company Executive
Officer.
After completing the Engineer Officer Advance
Course, he was assigned as Commander of C
Company 2-47th Infantry of the 3rd
Training Brigade in Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. He
later took command of B Company, 3-10th
Infantry. During his command time with the 3rd
Training Brigade, his companies were responsible
for the Initial Entry Training of over 1,500 new
recruits into the Army.
After his time in command, LTC Hamilton served
in assignments in the Headquarters, U.S. Army
Cadet Command where he developed new doctrine
and curriculum for over 1200 Universities and
Campuses with existing Reserve Officer Training
Corps Programs. He then served as a Unit Advisor
and Training Officer in Everett, Wash., where he
was responsible for training and certifying Army
National Guard and Reserve units, as well as
Active Air Force and Navy units being deployed
to Iraq, Afghanistan, and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
After earning a Masters degree in Business
Administration from Touro International and
graduating from the Army Command and General
Staff College, LTC Hamilton was assigned as a
Team Chief for a Border Transition Team at Fort
Riley, Kan., where he trained his team for
deployment to the Syrian Border in Iraq. While
serving in this capacity in Iraq, his team
trained and assisted an Iraqi Border Police
Battalion to secure an extensive portion of the
Iraq/Syrian Border.
LTC Hamilton was next assigned to Headquarters,
United States Army Corps of Engineers in
Washington, D.C., where he served as the Chief
of Civil Operations in the USACE Operations
Center and responding to several natural
disasters to include Upper and Lower Mississippi
River Flood Responses in 2008, hurricanes
Gustav, Ike, and Hanna, as well as several ice
storms, tornados, and flood events.
His awards and decorations include the Bronze
Star, the Meritorious Service Medal (5th Award),
Army Commendation Medal (2nd Award),
Army Achievement Medal (2nd Award),
Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, NATO Medal,
Meritorious Unit Citation, and the Air Assault
Badge.
