Caruthersville Area Office

cville.jpg (52955 bytes) The Memphis District's Caruthersville Area Office is located on Truman Blvd. in Caruthersville, MO. The office's area of responsibility covers approximately 12,000 square miles, or the northern half of the district, and includes portion of five states -- Arkansas, Tennessee, Missouri, Illinois and Kentucky. the area office's domain stretches from Osceola, Ark. up to Cape Girardeau, Mo. and covers approximately 110 miles of land from east to west, with the Mississippi River cutting through the middle of the territory.

Caruthersville's primary duties include the administration of construction and maintenance contracts for bridges, roads, dikes, levees, berms and other flood control works.

Employees also work closely with 44 local interest groups to provide effective response to emergencies and maintain reliable flood protection for people and property.

To accomplish their flood control mission, Caruthersville's professional conduct in-depth annual and semiannual inspections of all area flood control works including the operation and maintain of Drainage District No. 17's Pumping Station.

Inspectors also oversee about 300 miles of the district's mainline Mississippi River levees and about 350 miles of leveed tributaries.

Additional duties include purchasing equipment and supplies to meet mission requirements, administering relocation contracts and speaking to civic organizations about the missions and goals of the Memphis District.

Caruthersville Area Office's annual budget is approximately $10 million. the office also has 21 full-time employees with a tremendous amount of know-how. every employee in the area office has a great deal of experience. All are dedicated to their work and each person puts the organization's mission first.

Caruthersville employees also take special pride in the working relationship their office has with local flood control agencies. Every employee considers customer relations a priority. Because of their concern, employees share an excellent rapport with local political figures, levee boards and are residents. Moreover, Caruthersville's customers appreciate the work the corps does in the area. Similarly, the area office relies on local support to quickly carry out its missions.
