      <title>Groundbreakings, ribbon cutting indicate progress on eastern Arkansas groundwater, flood protection initiatives</title>

      <description>The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Memphis District marked three major infrastructure milestones in eastern Arkansas yesterday, Mar. 3, 2026. The events included groundbreaking ceremonies for the Grand Prairie Region Project and the Bayou Meto Basin Project and a ribbon-cutting to celebrate the successful installation of three new gearboxes at Graham Burke Pumping Station. 

All three achievements reflect significant advances in safeguarding Arkansas's water resources and the communities that rely on these critical water supplies.&lt;br/&gt;

"The FY 2023 Work Plan for Army Civil Works continues the administration’s substantial investments in projects and actions that will strengthen supply chains and the economy by adding capacity at the nation’s waterways and ports, build resilience to the impacts of climate change by reducing flood risks of communities and restoring the aquatic environment, and promote equity in underserved communities consistent with the President’s Justice40 Initiative,” said Michael Connor, Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works.&lt;br/&gt;

      <description>The Mississippi River Commission will conduct its annual high-water inspection trip on the Mississippi River, April 12-16, 2021.
 
Four public meetings have been scheduled aboard the Motor Vessel MISSISSIPPI in selected towns along the river.  Commission members will meet with local partners, stakeholders and residents and hear their concerns, ideas and issues.

      <title>St. Francis River Basin Partners, Mississippi River Commission, and Corps of Engineers to break ground on seepage remediation projects</title>

      <description>Groundbreaking ceremony for construction of multiple seepage remediation projects to include Below Senath, Missouri; Big Island, Arkansas; and Below Piggott/Below Hwy 90, Arkansas.

The Below Senath Seepage Remediation project, in Dunklin County, Missouri, will reduce risk from the effects of under-seepage by performing drainage ditch work to change the flow of water into a more desirable pattern for the stability of the levee.  Work began in May 2020, and the tentative completion date is October 2020. The local partner for the project is Levee District No. 4 of Dunklin County, Missouri, and the prime contractor is C&amp;M Contractors.&lt;br/&gt;
