Corps of Engineers wages Phase II floodfight efforts in eastern Arkansas and northwestern Mississippi

MEMPHIS, Tenn., Jan. 9, 2016 – The Memphis District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is currently in a Phase II floodfight due to high river stages on the Mississippi River. The area of current or possible flooding is located in the Helena, Ark., and Clarksdale, Miss., Areas on the Lower Mississippi River. Communities that may be affected include Tunica, Friars Point, Rosedale and other communities near the river in Mississippi, and Helena/West Helena, Melwood, and other riverside communities in Arkansas.

Corps continues to fight Mississippi River flooding, crest moving south from Cairo

VICKSBURG, MISS., January 5, 2016 – Almost 300 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers personnel from throughout the Mississippi Valley Division are continuing to combat flooding from high Mississippi River levels as the river crested January 3 at 56 feet on the Cairo gage. Public safety is the Corps number one priority, and as record-breaking river levels recede on the upper Mississippi and its tributaries, flood fighters remain vigilant around the clock to rapidly respond to trouble spots.
