William “Bill” Duke (center), with USACE Mississippi Valley Division Commander Brig. Gen. Pete DeLuca (left) and USACE Memphis District Col. Jeff Anderson (right), hang his photo on the wall of the Memphis District’s Gallery of Distinguished Civilian Employees. Duke is the 52nd individual to receive this prestigious honor in the District’s 131-year history. He first came to work at the Memphis District in 1960 as an inspector and construction representative based in our former Helena Area Office. He worked in several other positions until his selection as the superintendant of the Huxtable Pumping Plant. He served in this most important position until his retirement Jan. 1, 2005.
