Four Memphis District employees from Operations, Engineering, and Construction Divisions participated in “Who Works the Rivers"
Four Memphis District employees from our Engineering and Construction Division, and our Operations Division, participated in an outreach event April 23 called “Who Works the Rivers.” About 100 students from Kingsbury High School in Memphis and the Mid-South Community College in West Memphis, Ark., attended the day-long event held at the Mud Island River Park. The purpose of the activity was to help students understand how work on the Mississippi River might be in their futures, and to learn more about careers in industry, transportation, and science. The students spent the morning exploring the Mud Island Museum, the scale model River Walk, and touring a working commercial towboat. After lunch they met with representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Coast Guard, the Seaman’s Church Institute, river terminal operators and representatives from commercial towboat companies.
