For 68 consecutive years, the St. Francis Levee District of Arkansas has earned the Memphis District Outstanding Maintenance Award for maintaining its 160-mile portion of the mainline Mississippi River Levee. The levee district also earned the Memphis District Outstanding Maintenance Award for the 52nd consecutive year for maintaining its 251-mile portion of the St. Francis River Levee. Both the mainline Mississippi River and the St. Francis River levees are vital links in the extensive levee network that’s credited for reduced flooding and resulting damages within the Lower Mississippi Valley.
