2025 MRC Low Water Inspection & Hearing
This presidentially appointed Mississippi River Commission (MRC) holds a low-water and a high-water inspection trip along the Mississippi River each year aboard the Motor Vessel Mississippi. The new Memphis District Commander, Col. John L. Morrow, delivered remarks to the MRC and attendees regarding district programs and projects for the first time, Aug. 18. Remarks covered district projects and programs specific to the Memphis District. He will also provide remarks at the Aug. 19 and 20 hearings later in the week. MRC trips serve several key purposes, one being to provide a forum for commission members to engage with the public, partners, and other key stakeholders on river- and navigation-related issues, challenges, and opportunities. The trips are crucial for ensuring the public's voice is heard by USACE leadership as it is later used to shape decisions affecting the Mississippi River and surrounding areas. The information and perspectives shared during the public hearings are invaluable to the MRC and the Corps for making informed decisions regarding the nation's water resources.
