PUBLIC NOTICE FOR POSITIONS FILLED UNDER DIRECT HIRE AUTHORITY (DHA) FOR:

Certain Competitive Service Positions covered by Section 9905

 

Opening and Closing Dates: 02/24 - 02/28

Position Title: Marine Machinery Mechanic Series/Grade: Marine Machinery Mechanic, XF-5334-11 Full Performance Level: XF-11

Duty Location: Official Duty Station is the Dredge Hurley, position requires (non-TDY) travel with the Hurley, shift work, and mandatory overtime.

Hourly Salary Range: $26.30 - $30.65 Work Schedule: Full-Time Appointment Type: Permanent

Travel Requirement: Temporary Duty Travel is 10% of the time

Responsibilities/Duties: Stands a shift watch and works alone without close technical supervision. In small work groups must plan and layout work in making major and operating repairs of all engine room machinery and auxiliary equipment, such as 3550 H.P. diesel engines with attached 2500 K.W. A.C. generators, 1950 H.P. propulsion, 1500 H.P. main pump, 450 H.P. jet pump D.C. motors, air compressors, air conditioning systems, water making plants, sewage systems, fuel oil systems, electrical systems, light plants, winches, and hydraulic cranes. Makes periodic inspections by visual and auditory means of all machinery to determine the operating condition and the need for maintenance and repairs and makes adjustments to eliminate major breakdown of equipment. Checks and controls the quantity of fuel, oil, water, etc. to determine the proper functioning of dredge machinery. Accomplishes repairs, such as replacing bearings, repairing fuel lines, grinding valves, replacing cylinders, pistons and shears in auxiliary pumps and machinery, removing and replacing complete assemblies. Assists in making major repairs and overhauls during layup. Assists in painting and other housekeeping duties in engine room.

Schedule: During the dredging season, typically May through November, all Hurley crew members, including this position, work a 15 days on/6 days off schedule, with the work period beginning and ending on Wednesdays. On the 15 work days, employees remain on the Dredge Hurley and are provided meals and lodging. This position works a 12 hour shift, and may rotate between day and night shifts. During the non-dredging season, the crew works day shift only, with the vessel based at Ensley Engineer Yard, Memphis, TN, on either a 5-day/8-hour or 4- day/10-hr schedule. During the dredging season, the Dredge Hurley will work in widespread locations in the Mississippi River, including up to 120 days in the vicinity of Baton Rouge, LA.

Qualifications Requirements: For all qualified employees currently within the Memphis District. Must pass physical exam and drug screening test if selected for position.
