Memphis District Commander, Col. Zachary Miller, district leadership, the Cairo Drainage District, Mound City, Illinois, and Project Delivery Team members all gathered to celebrate the completion of significant projects involving the replacement of culverts in both the northern and southern sides of the Mound City Pump Station and the installation of several relief wells in Mound City through Cairo.
They celebrated the project completions with a ribbon-cutting, which was one of five ceremonies held in a two-day time frame.
Along with Mound City and the Drainage District of Cairo, the Memphis District awarded a contract to A Rock Construction Co., Southern Contracting, LLC, and Pontchartrain Partners, LLC, in the total amount of $4.8 million. The projects involved the replacement of a culvert with an in-line sluice gate inside the gate well structure. A flap gate was used for the outlet structure.
Additionally, the project installed 13 new relief wells throughout Mound City and Cairo.
Construction on the first portion of the three-piece project began Aug. 11, 2017, wrapping up Nov. 5, 2019. The second piece of the project began Aug. 31, 2018 and completed Aug. 5, 2020. The final piece of the project started Sept. 26, 2018, finishing Jun. 24, 2021.
Congratulations and thank you to all those involved with executing these critical projects and making the Memphis District mission not just a concept, but a reality.
