Congrats to Dr. Zuzana Chovanec on her recent recognition and receiving of a Civilian Service Commendation Medal! She was commended for delivering exceptional results as the Memphis District’s Regulatory Archaeologist for the authorization of a Department of the Army permit for the Ford Motor Company’s Blue Oval City industrial development in Haywood County, Tennessee.
Throughout the process, Dr. Chovanec maintained open communication with the permit manager, applicant, the Tennessee State Historic Preservation Office, and the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation to ensure the project was Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act compliant.
She took decisive actions to ensure impacts to cultural resources were appropriately abated and mitigated. This project was of local, regional, and national importance, and Dr. Chovanec’s accurate and thorough documentation and consultation efforts ensured successful resolution of outstanding concerns.
Her dedicated service brings great credit upon herself, the Memphis District, the Mississippi Valley Division, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
