Congratulations to Metals Unit Welder/Fitter Leaderman, Mr. Joey Cabay, on his Employee of the Month recognition for the month of February!
On top of the responsibilities handled by a Welder, Metal Worker, and Fitter, Cabay regularly takes on much more than what is asked of him.
After graduating from the district’s Leadership Development Program, he took no time off in between, volunteering for a spot on the district’s All One Council. He is also the unit’s Collateral Duty Safety Officer. He juggles these responsibilities all while being a committed leaderman, going the extra mile to guide a team of welders and fitters while ensuring they have all the ‘tools’ they need to be successful.
Cabay also ensures him team is informed, especially during high-stress situations. He executed communications seamlessly during an ice storm event this year, and kept the entire unit informed of all alerts, status updates, and information during the event. He also remained connected with all management, proving him to be reliable and the go-to person for any information and guidance needed.
While the CDSO, Cabay is and always has been an enthusiastic advocate for all things safety, especially in the Metals Unit where much of the work done is inherently dangerous. Always working to improve, he invested much of his own time and energy looking into new gear and safety training for his teammates. And, always leading by example, he wears proper gear every time it’s needed, and even went so far as to acquire new fall harnesses for every individual in the unit.
Cabay is a shining star and model employee, and his name is dropped by other employees often, including those outside the metals unit, who speak to his above and beyond work ethic and his work with the metals and other units throughout the district.
Lastly, Cabay’s character is an inspiration to many and improves the morale of those around him. It is people like him that make this district the outstanding organization it is, and we are fortunate to have him on this team. Congratulations again to Mr. Joey Cabay, and thank you for your above and beyond efforts and all the contributions you’ve made since being on the Memphis District Team.
