The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Memphis District and the City of Memphis have officially signed a Project Partnership Agreement (PPA) to advance the Greenbelt Landing Project—a major recreational improvement initiative along the Mississippi River at Greenbelt Park.
Located at River Mile 738, Greenbelt Park spans approximately 102 acres of public green space along the Mississippi River. Originally constructed in the late 1960s as part of the Mississippi River & Tributaries Project, the park has long served as a community hub for recreation and river access.
The Greenbelt Landing Project will enhance the park’s infrastructure and amenities, including repairs to the existing boat ramp, construction of a second upstream ramp, installation of mooring anchors, ADA-compliant parking upgrades, and additional lighting for safety and accessibility.
The project is made possible through $3 million in federal Community Directed Funding from the FY22 Workplan, matched by $3M in non-federal funds from the City of Memphis. The Memphis River Parks Partnership, which manages the city’s public parks, is supporting implementation efforts.
“The Greenbelt Landing Project reflects a strong federal-local partnership committed to improving public access, safety, and recreation along the riverfront,” Memphis District Commander Col. Brian Sawser said. “We’re grateful for the continued support from our congressional delegation and our local partners in moving this project forward.”
U.S. Representative Steve Cohen (TN-09) was instrumental in securing the funding that makes significant work like this possible. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers places significant emphasis on partnerships to devise engineering solutions for the nation’s most challenging issues.
"Winning with our Partners" is a core Memphis District philosophy centered on cultivating mutually beneficial partnerships characterized by shared success, collaborative relationships, and long-term value creation for America.
Together with its partners — the City of Memphis, Memphis River Parks Partnership, and Tennessee Congressional delegation — the Memphis District is resolute in its efforts to safely deliver this project on time and within budget, creating value for all stakeholders.
