Stephen Shankle is Construction Branch Chief for the Corps of Engineers

MEMPHIS, Tenn., January 21, 2009 – Stephen Shankle is the new Construction Branch Chief for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Memphis District.

He has worked for the Corps of Engineers for more than 30 years in various sections of the Memphis District as a Deckhand, a Civil Engineer in the Construction Branch, Resident Engineer for the construction of the Motor Vessel Mississippi and Dredge Hurley, Contracting Division Chief and Area Engineer at the Caruthersville, Missouri Area Office.

In his new position Shankle is responsible for post award contract administration of construction contracts within the District.

The 25,000-square-mile Memphis District encompasses portions of six states and is charged with keeping 355 miles of the Mississippi River open for commercial navigation. Its mission is to provide flood risk management, navigation, environmental stewardship, other authorized civil works, military programs support, and emergency operations within our area of responsibility, in order to benefit the region and the nation.
