  • Corps hosts Levee summit at Cairo to discuss regional flood repairs

    MEMPHIS, Tenn., DEC. 15, 2011 – City, county and Illinois state officials joined representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Wednesday (Dec. 14) for a Levee Summit in Cairo, Ill. The meeting was part of the Corps’ comprehensive effort to make repairs to the regional flood risk management system following the tremendous floods this spring.

    MEMPHIS, Tenn., DEC. 6, 2011 – Based on National Weather Service forecasts of unseasonably high river levels and more to come, Maj. Gen. John Peabody, Commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Mississippi Valley Division, has directed an orderly shutdown of the Birds Point-New Madrid project area.
  • Possibility of renewed flooding in Birds Point-New Madrid Floodway area

    MEMPHIS, Tenn., DEC. 5, 2011 – Based on National Weather Service forecasts of unseasonably high river levels, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers advises citizens with interests in the Birds Point-New Madrid Floodway that a significant risk of renewed flooding in that area exists for the near future.
  • Corps of Engineers-The Nature Conservancy to sign historic agreement at Mud Island Tuesday

    Memphis, TENN., Nov. 14, 2011 – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and The Nature Conservancy (TNC) will sign an addendum to the National Memorandum of Understanding on Collaborating to Advance the Great Rivers Partnership (GRP).

    MEMPHIS, Tenn., OCT. 24, 2011 – The Memphis District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced today that they have issued two Notices to Proceed for construction contracts in the Cairo, Ill. area.
