C. Don Wilbanks is the new Assistant Chief of Operations for the Corps of Engineers

MEMPHIS, Tenn., January 21, 2009 – C. Don Wilbanks is the new Assistant Chief of Operations for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Memphis District.

He has 31 years of federal service and has worked for the Memphis District Corps of Engineers for more than 24 years in various sections within the Planning Division, as the Chief of Surveying and Mapping, Chief of Plant Section and most recently as the Chief of Physical Support Branch.

In his new position Wilbanks is responsible for working with the Operations Division Chief in all aspects of the operations program for the Memphis District including Program Planning, Regulatory Functions, Emergency Operations, Navigation, Revetment, Marine Maintenance, and Ensley Engineer Facility Yard and Marine Maintenance Facility.

The 25,000-square-mile Memphis District encompasses portions of six states and is charged with keeping 355 miles of the Mississippi River open for commercial navigation. Its mission is to provide flood risk management, navigation, environmental stewardship, other authorized civil works, military programs support, and emergency operations within our area of responsibility, in order to benefit the region and the nation.
