Thomas George is new master of Corps of Engineers flagship Mississippi

MEMPHIS, Tenn., July 2, 2008 – Thomas George has been selected as Master of the U.S. Army Corps
of Engineers river flagship the motor vessel Mississippi. The vessel is home ported in Memphis.

A Yazoo City, Miss., native, George has worked for the Corps of Engineers for more than 18 years as an Assistant Master on the Dredge Burgess, the Dredge Hurley and on the M/V Mississippi. His career on the river began in 1974 with Brent Towing Company and currently spans 34 years of service
on the Inland Waterways

In his new position, George is responsible for welfare and maintenance of the vessel, the safety and well being of crew members and guests, and the safe transit of the vessel in the performance of the vessel’s missions.
