Carol Winfield Jones is new Chief of Project Development Branch for Corps of Engineers

MEMPHIS, Tenn., April 14, 2008 – Carol Winfield Jones has been selected as Chief, Project
Development Branch and Assistant to the Deputy District Engineer for Project Management for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Memphis District.

A Memphis native, Jones has worked for the Corps of Engineers for more than 25 years in various Engineering, Planning, and Project Management positions. Most recently she served as a Senior Project Manager for studies and projects within the Memphis Metropolitan Area, including the Wolf River Restoration Project.

In her new position, Jones is responsible for serving as an advisor by providing oversight and coordination with respect to water resources planning, policies, and outreach activities within a six-state area and the District’s strategic planning initiatives.

Jones received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering and engineering management, respectively from Christian Brothers University. In 1982, she became the first African-
American woman to work full time as an engineer with the Memphis District.
