Corps of Engineers releases final Mississippi River Resource Assessment report

Published April 21, 2015
MEMPHIS, Tenn., April 21, 2015 – The Memphis District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) today released the Final Assessment Report of the Lower Mississippi River Resource Assessment. This report addresses habitat, recreation and information needs on the Lower Mississippi River.
This assessment combines three previously completed assessments under the Lower Mississippi River Resource Assessment. These were an information needs assessment completed in 2013, a recreation needs assessment completed in 2014, and a habitat assessment completed earlier this year. This final assessment combines the conclusions contained in the three previous ones and proposes a comprehensive plan to guide management of the Lower Mississippi River and improve habitat and recreation access.
The Water Resources Development Act of 2000 authorized this investigation. The Nature Conservancy – Great Rivers Partnership is the lead study sponsor. Other partners include the Mississippi River Corridor-TN, Lower Mississippi River Conservation Committee, National Audubon Society, and The Nature Conservancy chapters in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee.
Two public meetings are scheduled for anyone who wishes to make comments in person or ask questions. Both are Open Houses.
