The Memphis District held a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a groundbreaking ceremony on Nov. 17, 2021, to celebrate two critical construction projects in Tennessee and Kentucky.

District Commander Col. Zachary Miller, district leadership, and the project delivery team members met with project partners in Ridgely, Tennessee, for a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The celebratory event was held to acknowledge the completion of an essential levee restoration and berm construction project.

A contract for $6.83 million was awarded on Feb. 28, 2019, to contractor Pontchartrain Partners, LLC.

Construction included repairing 15 levee slides, constructing four seepage berms, and flattening site levee slopes in need of leveling.

Project Partners, the Lake County Levee and Drainage District, and the Dyer County Levee and Drainage District, were instrumental in completing this project. Dyer County proved to be an integral part of the team as they provided borrow material and worked with project landowners regarding the construction portion of the project.

Immediately following the ceremony, district leadership and project team members traveled to the event site and met with the project partner in Hickman, Kentucky, for a groundbreaking.

The groundbreaking was held to celebrate the start of a seepage remediation project in partnership with the Fulton County Board of Levee Commissioners.

Construction plans include installing 79 new relief wells, 12,000 linear feet of subsurface drainpipe, and 1,900 linear feet of new drainage ditches. Additionally, contractors will modify the existing ditches and replace five of the site's culverts.

The contract was awarded to contractor Jerry B. Young for $7.775 million on Sept. 20, 2021.

Congratulations to all involved in executing these vital projects in Miston/Ridgely, Tennessee, and Hickman, Kentucky. And many thanks to our partners, the Dyer County Levee and Drainage District, Lake County Levee and Drainage District, and the Fulton County Board of Levee Commissioners, for their continued support in delivering projects like these time after time.
