Great project managers excel in leadership, communication, planning, and problem-solving, demonstrating adaptability, emotional intelligence, and a strong understanding of risk management. They are also effective team builders, delegators, and possess strong organizational skills.
Project Manager (PM) Zach Cook is one of an entire Memphis District roster of project managers possessing the characteristics to WIN—safely deliver quality projects, on time, and within budget.
One critical advantage all Memphis District Project Managers enjoy are great Project Delivery Teams (PDT) characterized by strong communication, clear roles and responsibilities, effective leadership, a positive team atmosphere, and the ability to adapt to change. They also demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, and time management.
PM Cook and his dedicated PDT secured the WIN on the FY25 Dike Stone Repair Project by expertly balancing the quadruple constraints of safety, time, budget, and quality, creating value for our partners, stakeholders, and the American taxpayer.
This important $2.9M Mississippi River channel maintenance project placed 82k tons of Graded Stone A to repair and restore multiple dikes to “As-Built” conditions at Sycamore Chute, Tennessee. Dikes assist in maintaining the navigation channel by helping to promote scouring of the riverbed during low water.
Dikes are most effective during low water periods and are considering the more permanent solution in maintaining navigation as opposed to repetitive maintenance dredging. The area of the project dikes was the most dredged spot within the Memphis District area of responsibility during the last three low-water seasons. The dike repair project minimizes the future need for dredging this location.
As we continually and proudly emphasize, the Memphis District does not WIN on our own. We rely heavily on our great project partners like the Commercial Towing Interests represented by the Lower Mississippi River Committee, and contractor Midwest Construction Company.
"Winning with our partners" is a core Memphis District philosophy centered on cultivating mutually beneficial partnerships characterized by shared success, collaborative relationships, and long-term value creation for America.
