    Contract Award | Memphis District awards $8.4M contract for landing barge, a significant step towards completing stringout overhaul

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Memphis District awarded an $8.4 million firm-fixed-price contract to Conrad Shipyard LLC, of Morgan City, Louisiana, for the purchase of a steel-hulled deck barge, June 3, 2025.

    The Memphis District and its partners recently gathered at the Goose Pond Pump Station Rehab site in Alexander County, Illinois, to celebrate the beginning of a significant project with none other than a Wrench Turning Ceremony. At the ceremony were , Our Non-Federal Partner with the Cairo Drainage District, Mike Turner and Contractor Partner Randy Kinder were both present for the ceremony. Memphis District Commander and District Engineer Col. Brian Sawser, Deputy for Programs and Project Management Donny Davidson, and Project Manager Marsha Raus also attended and represented for the USACE Memphis District.

    The Memphis District and its partners gathered at the Goose Pond Pump Station Rehab site in Alexander County, Illinois, to celebrate the start of a project with a Wrench Turning Ceremony.

    Crews working on the St. Johns Outlet Scour Repairs project near New Madrid, Missouri, are making great progress as they now work to place stone to protect the outlet control structure and bayou from erosion and scouring due to the interior drainage and Mississippi River backwater effects. This is part of our maintenance efforts to maintain the Mississippi River and Tributaries Project, ensuring the continued reliability of our flood risk management system in the valley.

Twice a year, all 43 USACE DPMs meet in person to tackle challenges, share best practices, and seek opportunities to develop forward moving strategies for the organization.

    Programs and Project Management Deputy District Engineers (DPM) from across the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, gathered in Charleston, South Carolina, for a two-day Deputy Forum on April 26. Twice a year, all 43 USACE DPMs meet in person to tackle challenges, share best practices, and seek opportunities to develop forward moving strategies for the organization.

    Memphis District celebrates Kellinsky's retirement

    "The best part of my job here at the Memphis District was building things for people," Memphis District Carpenter Steve Kellinsky said. "I loved being a carpenter and I loved the Army, so I always looked at it like getting paid to play in a billion-dollar playground." After dedicating more than seven years of service to the Memphis District, 11 to the federal government, and six to the U.S. Army, Steve Kellinsky is celebrating his recent retirement from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Memphis District as a carpenter.
