  • Mississippi River Commission schedules 411th session to conduct annual low-water inspection trip, public hearings

    The Mississippi River Commission will conduct its 411th low-water inspection trip and public hearings from Aug. 19 – 23 at four locations along the Mississippi River. The meeting dates, times and locations are as follows: August 19: 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. New Madrid, Mo. (City Front) August 20: 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Memphis, Tenn. (Mud Island River Park) August 21: 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Lake Village, Ark. (City Front) August 23: 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Berwick, La. (Garber Brothers Marine)
  • Running Reelfoot Bayou Feasibility Cost Sharing Agreement Signing Ceremony

    The West Tennessee River Basin Authority and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Memphis District recently held a Feasibility Cost Sharing Agreement Signing Ceremony to initiate a cost shared feasibility study. The study aims to identify and evaluate alternatives and the preparation of a decision document that, as appropriate, recommends a coordinated and implementable solution for restoring aquatic and floodplain habitat along a 20-mile corridor from Reelfoot Lake and Lake Isom National Wildlife Refuge to the Obion River. 
  • Alert: Homeowners should not pay contractors seeking payment for blue roof

    Louisiana homeowners who receive a notice of payment owed for the installation of federally installed blue roof after Hurricanes Laura and Delta should not pay. FEMA and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which manages the Blue Roof Program, have been alerted by some homeowners that they are receiving letters demanding payment for the installation of a blue tarp, used to waterproof hurricane-damaged roofs. The contractor further threatens to place a lien against the owner’s home. Survivors who receive this notice should not pay. The Blue Roof program is free. A subcontractor cannot demand payment or file a lien against a property of a survivor who received a blue tarp.
  • USACE publishes Mississippi River mainline levees Final Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement

    USACE published its Final Supplement II to the 1976 Final Environmental Impact Statement, Mississippi River and Tributaries Project, Mississippi River Mainline Levees, in the Federal Register today, Nov. 13. It is available online at the USACE Vicksburg District website, and the review period ends Dec. 14, 2020.
  • Operation Blue Roof sign-up for Hurricane Laura extended

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is extending the deadline to apply for Operation Blue Roof to Sept. 30, 2020. The original application deadline was set to expire Sept. 21. Residents can sign up for the program online at www.usace.army.mil/BlueRoof or call toll free 1-888-ROOF-BLU (1-888-766-3258).
