Mississippi River Commission Schedules High-Water Inspection Trip

VICKSBURG, Miss., April 4, 2018 -- The Mississippi River Commission will conduct the Memphis District portion of its annual high-water inspection trip on the Mississippi River April 16-17, 2018. Two public meetings in the Memphis District are scheduled aboard the Motor Vessel MISSISSIPPI in selected towns along the river so commission members have the opportunity to meet with local partners, stakeholders and residents and hear their concerns, ideas and issues. The meeting places, dates and times are as follows: • April 16 9 a.m. New Madrid, Missouri (City Front) • April 17 9 a.m. Memphis, Tennessee (Beale Street Landing)

Corps of Engineers, partners preparing for second Mississippi River crest forecast by Weather Service

MEMPHIS, Tenn., March 23, 2018 – The National Weather Service informed the Memphis District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) yesterday that they expect the lower Mississippi River to again rise above Phase I activation levels in the northern portion of the District by the end of March, which could cause flooding in some areas.

Corps of Engineers, partners monitor levees as Mississippi River crests at Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn., March 9, 2018 – U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) employees, in cooperation with local partners and stakeholders, continue to monitor the flood risk reduction system to ensure the safety of lives and property in the region during the current flood. The forecast calls for the river to crest at 39.5 feet on the Memphis gage sometime today, 5½ feet above the National Weather Service’s flood stage.

High Water in the Mississippi River Valley

VICKSBURG, Miss., – The Mississippi Valley Division (MVD), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), is working alongside local, state and other federal agencies to help address and minimize flooding due to heavy rains on the Mississippi and Ohio rivers and their principal tributaries. Four of MVD’s six districts – Rock Island District, Memphis District, Vicksburg District and New Orleans District – and division headquarters have activated their emergency operations centers to monitor and respond to the rising water.
