A Memphis District Project Delivery Team recently completed work to construct 25 new relief wells in Scott County, Missouri.

Water seepage under levees can weaken the integrity of both the levee and the overall flood protection system. Relief wells significantly reduce water seepage and reduce the likelihood of a breach during high water events, therefore making relief wells an important feature of the Mississippi River & Tributaries System.

To execute the project, a contract for $1,630,303.15 was awarded to VuCon, LLC., in August 2018. The contract was administered by the Memphis District’s Caruthersville Area Office, and the job was declared substantially complete June 24, 2022.

The district would like to thank our very appreciated sponsor, Levee District No. 2, for their continued support throughout the execution of this vital project.

Finally, the district congratulates it's project delivery team members for engineering a solution to yet another one of this Nation’s more difficult challenges. Not only was it completed efficiently, but it was done collaboratively, within budget, and safely. Great job team, and thank you for your outstanding efforts.
